The chapter looks at integrated models of urban land use and transport ie models that explicitly model the two way interaction between land use and transport to forecast the likely impacts of land use and transport policies for decision support in urban planning. Transport and land use planning needed to be co ordinated quickly spread among american planners and the land use transport feedback cycle became a commonplace in the american planning literature the set of relationships implied by this term can be briefly summarised as follows see figure 1 figure 1 the land use transport feedback cycle. Dr rubn cordera is a researcher in transport and land use interaction in the transportation systems research group at the university of cantabria from where he earned his phd his research focuses on luti models transport planning and spatial econometric models applied to transport and land use. Othe model is singly constrained we know where people work and we want to find out where they live so origins are workplaces and destinations are housing areas othe model then lets us predict people in housing owe argue that people will trade off money for housing against transport cost. However an integrated approach to the modelling of transport and land use has been rarely made and common practice has been to model both phenomena independently this book presents an introduction to the modelling of land use and transport interaction luti with a theoretical basis and a presentation of the broad state of the art
